The Week in Matthews

Mr. Brian Storosko
The boys are feeling the pressures of increased academic workload with many assignments and tests occurring. In terms of support, we have a math tutor available online for the residential students Wednesday nights from 7:30–8:30 p.m. If you were not aware, the boys have homework time on Wednesdays from 1–3 p.m. and open Wednesday nights. Boys will often have group activities or events on Wednesday, some will participate, some will do homework and some will take it easy.

In terms of academic support, there is a student peer helping process called Students Teaching Students (STS) which runs nightly from 6–8 p.m. that students can drop into (online) to get homework help. In addition, there are some boarding students who are offering peer help in the kitchen during prep time.

Sunday evenings we have quiet time from 7:45–8:45 p.m. where students are in their rooms, preparing for their week, cleaning their room, doing laundry, and maybe doing homework. There are no movies or computer games at that time. Wing meetings run Sunday nights after the quiet time and the agenda usually covers safety precautions and announcements for upcoming events.

The many photos this week were from Halloween activities last weekend, students who volunteered in the community and our first snowfall on the pumpkins!
