Co-curriculars

Each year at Ashbury, students are provided with quality learning experiences that instill lifelong values related to the benefits of health, the arts, sports, teamwork, cultural, physical, and recreational endeavours. Students can engage in a wide range of co-curricular activities.

Students must participate in nine terms of co-curricular involvement during their four years in the Senior School. Involvement in co-curricular programs and community service is important for successful university admissions.

Athletics

Ashbury takes great pride in offering an outstanding, competitive athletics program, which is locally, nationally and even internationally recognized. The athletics program emphasizes the relationship between academics and activities that promote excellence though opportunities that foster the development of teamwork, cooperation, social skills, responsibility, and leadership. These activities demand a high level of commitment, excellence and self-motivation, which will help prepare students for the challenges they will meet outside the school community.

The state-of-the-art Chris and Mary Taggart Fitness Centre provides students with a space to train and improve their fitness levels. An on-site fitness trainer and athletic therapist assist those looking to develop strength responsibly and maintain performance at optimal levels.

Ashbury’s House System

Each student at Ashbury belongs to one of four Houses: Dragons, Goblins, Hobbits and Wizards in the Junior School, and Woollcombe, New House, Alexander, and Connaught in the Senior School. House points can be earned for a variety of activities and through a series of friendly competition.

Wellness Centre

Health, safety and wellness our central to life at Ashbury. The school’s registered nurse lives on campus, providing 24-hour-a-day care, and our Wellness Centre offers a variety of counselling and other mental health services. Student support systems and programs promote wellness, respect and resilience.

Teacher Advisor Groups (TAG)

Senior School students are assigned a Teacher Advisor, and in most cases, they stay with the advisor throughout their time at Ashbury. These advisors are an important support for students and the relationship exists to maximize potential and mitigate issues that may arise. Advisors also act as an important link between home and school as student engagement is monitored. Advisors can support, celebrate and assist students and families during the ups and downs that invariably characterize time in school.

International Experiences

Ashbury students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of skill-building experiences throughout the year. Each experience offers unique exposure to different perspectives and pathways and the chance to connect with peers on national and international levels.

International Trips (currently on hold due to pandemic)
Ashbury College encourages students to become responsible global citizens. International trips and exchanges are two of the many ways we reinforce global understanding during the school year. Travelling and sharing cultures is an inherent part of the Ashbury experience.

Chapel Program

The Ashbury College chapel is the spiritual centre and the heart of our school, and the chapel program is a vibrant part of school life. We take pride in celebrating the diverse multi-faith culture of our school community as students discuss current events and issues related to philosophy, civics, sociology, and peace and conflict studies. Ashbury provides an environment that supports constructive debate, makes time for reflection, and encourages community involvement and personal responsibility.

Community Partnerships

Ashbury College works closely with a variety of community partners, from educational institutions and government bodies to registered charities. Partnerships connect Ashbury to the National Capital Region and beyond, by supporting faculty growth, curriculum offerings, and the student experience. Community relationships are formalized through contracts, agreements and Memorandums of Understanding. Ashbury is open to establishing new partnerships that align with our mission to inspire students to become intellectually curious, compassionate and responsible citizens.
