This Week in Maple & Gillin

Kate Lane

The Maple and Gillin students are eager to enjoy a four-day holiday: with everyone away for off campus adventures this weekend. Many have elected to attend our Ashbury-run trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls which will undoubtedly be a fabulous experience highlighting a number of well-known Canadian destinations. While many activities are planned, students also have a sufficient amount of downtime to relax, read, sleep, or study. Perhaps even call home from our provincial capital! Others will be enjoying time in New York City, Montreal, and Ottawa with family – I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s experiences once they return and am grateful that our world is opening up to allow for these memorable trips.

On Sunday evening we welcomed our Head of School, Mr. Southward, for an informal meeting in the Gillin common room. It was a nice introduction for our new students and a reminder of some of the important policies and expectations at Ashbury – both when students are on and off campus. As boarders in particular, we are always representing the school and are well-known as responsible citizens in our local community. Upholding the tradition of being thoughtful, courteous members of the Rockcliffe and Ottawa community is as important as any.

Finally, you will see our boarding teachers, students, and even pets enjoying the beautiful fall weather this past week – while we can certainly feel winter on the horizon, the beginning of November has been favourable for outdoor visits and sunny walks around the neighbourhood
