This Week in Gillin & Maple

Kate Lane

The Gillin and Maple residents enjoyed evening “wing activities” – a chance to bond and get to know one another better. Our student-leaders did an excellent job initiating conversations about where everyone is from, family background, special passions and interests, and ideas for future careers and the types of lives everyone would like to live. It was fascinating to hear some talk about various career aspirations and others’ desire to lead a family of eight – all testament to the diversity of interests and futures our students seek.

While this has felt like a particularly busy week for students – many with upcoming tests and assignments – we also celebrated Halloween and all the October birthdays, providing a nice reprieve from academics. Happy (belated) birthday to Nazifa, Miriam, Emily, and Amina!

Our boarders are also beginning to adjust to the cooler temperatures and will soon have even shorter/darker days ahead – the best remedy we know for what can put many of us in a dampened mood during November is to sleep a little earlier and get outside as much as possible. Please encourage your child to participate in the many boarding and co-curricular opportunities; while these might seem like a “distraction” from work, they in fact contribute to a healthier, more motivated and balanced student.
