Course Description:

CHV2OF (Half Credit):
This course explores rights and responsibilities associated with being an active citizen in a democratic society. Students will explore issues of civic importance and the influence of social media, while developing their understanding of the role of civic engagement and of political processes in the local, national, and/or global community. Students will apply the concepts of political thinking and the political inquiry process to investigate, and express informed opinions about, a range of political issues and developments that are both of significance in today’s world and of personal interest to them. This course also includes learning on digital literacy and critical-thinking skills, the mechanisms of government, Indigenous governance systems and structures, the historical foundations of the rights and freedoms we enjoy in Canada, ways in which government policy affects individuals’ lives and the economy, and ways for students to serve their communities. It is a compulsory OSSD half-credit course.

GLC2OF (Half Credit):

Ashbury Summer Camps, Summer Camps Ottawa, Top summer camps in Ottawa

We will be using e-book versions of the required textbooks from Alpha Textbooks. Detailed, step-by-step ordering instructions for e-books will be shared in late May/early June 2026.

Students will use a school-provided iPad for the majority of notetaking and assignments. Some work may still be completed using pen and paper. Students should come each day with appropriate writing tools and a notebook should one be required to supplement their electronic notes, or to write a paper-based assessment.

Unless otherwise indicated, all program offerings (credit courses, academic workshops, and summer camps) will be delivered face-to-face at the Ashbury College campus.

Should a change in the delivery method be required due to circumstances beyond the school’s control, all families registered for the affected program will be notified as soon as possible. In the event of a change of this nature, families will be offered a full refund without penalty.

Given the condensed summer school calendar, a student cannot be absent for more than a total of 10 hours (600 minutes) for a full credit course, and a total of 5 hours (300 minutes) for a half credit course, otherwise credit cannot be awarded according to the ministry standard, nor will a refund be given.

Partial refunds are not available for portions of programs not attended.

Students will be responsible for catching up on portions of class that are missed.

Statement on required immunizations to attend Ashbury College

Immunizations required for attendance at Ashbury College are outlined below:

1. The immunization requirements to attend school in Ontario must be up to date for each student with local public authorities and the school’s Wellness team. Ottawa Public Health may suspend the right for a child to attend school if documentation is not up to date for the required immunizations (https://www.ontario.ca/page/vaccines-children-school). A sample letter is attached for your information and as reminder of OPH’s nine diseases for which students must be immunized against to attend school in the province.

2. As an independent school Ashbury College reserves the right to require immunization against COVID or other diseases in the interest of the health and safety of our unique international school community and congregate day and boarding setting.

3. Students are strongly encouraged to have up-to-date immunizations against COVID and Influenza. Students without up-to-date COVID or other immunizations may be denied access to school activities based on third-party and international programme opportunities with varying immunization and COVID policies.

Please note that the school reserves the right at any time to re-establish or implement new policies related to immunization requirements and deny entry to in-person learning and programs to students who do not meet said requirements based on evolving public health issues. Our objective is to ensure the health and safety of all in our community.
