The Grade 4, 5, 6 Co-Ed & Boys Soccer Tournament
By: Samuel Qing & Chenchen Ying
On October 3rd, 2022, the grade 4, 5, 6 boys went to the Hornet’s Nest to face off against seven different schools. Ashbury succeeded in winning every single game during the semi-finals, and even though stress levels were high, Mr. Purves, with his epic coaching, led us to the finals. In the finals against St. Lawrence Academy, everyone was determined to win. In the final seconds, St. Lawrence Academy started joking around and telling us that they would get ice cream if they won, but Ashbury was smart enough to know that it was a trick, so we played the rest of the game and we won!
In the end, Mr. Purves told us that the hardware didn’t matter, but that what mattered was that we had lots of fun, that we got to know each other better, and that we were proud of ourselves. I think he was 100% right! Special kudos to Mr. Purves for being our coach.
The Wednesday 4,5,6 Co-ed Soccer Tournament
On October 5, 2022, students from Grades 4, 5, and 6 from Ashbury played soccer against two other schools, Kanata Montessori School and Peak Academy Hockey School.
Dressed in their PE kit as uniform, students took the bus and left for Kanata at 8:30 a.m. and arrived at 9:30 a.m. On the field, they split up into three teams. Team 1 first played against Kanata Montessori School, also known as the “Fire Balls.” The score was 3-0. Meanwhile, team 2 had a break while team 3 played against the “Yellow Jackets.”
Although we won some and lost some, we had a lot of fun. Everyone put a great effort into the games. It was a day of fun and learning on the soccer pitch.
